Sporting success stories

As a school we are proud and delighted to report the success of 3 of our pupils who are participating at an elite level. Dominic Young, Leoni Price and Billy Wilson-French are currently representing England in their respective sport. They are all committed and dedicated performers, who have to regularly attend training, including training camps, in order to prepare themselves for competition.

Dominic Young | England U16s | Rugby League

Dominic Young

Dominic has been selected to attend an England Rugby League training camp in April, which, if selected, will build up to two games against France U16’s. He made the initial 15 man squad, which has now been extended to 25 players. He has been selected as a second row or centre to use his power alongside his skills set to set the team up in both attack and defence. He is currently playing for the Huddersfield Giants Academy at second row and centre. He trains twice a week for Huddersfield, using the same facilities used by the first team, with regular fixtures both midweek and on a weekend.

Leoni Price | England U15s | Football

Leoni Price

Leoni was recently selected to represent England U15’s v Germany at St Georges Park, the FA’s national football centre. She was selected from a training squad of 35 players, and was picked to start as the teams central midfield player. Unfortunately, the weather meant that the Germany game did not go ahead, however the team played a game against the England U16 team, starting at centre midfield. She currently plays for Manchester City Ladies Academy U16 team where she is a regular starter. She trains at the Etihad training complex 4 times a week, using the same facilities used by both the men’s and ladies professional squads, with regularly fixtures every weekend. In the coming months, if selected, Leoni will have the opportunity to represent England again, with an away fixture against Belgium.

Billy Wilson French | U13 Double British Champion | Figure Skating

Billy Wilson French

Billy is the current British Champion for his age group, in both the individual and couples disciplines. He recently travelled to Dortmund, Germany to represent Great Britain with his partner at an international competition, where they finished 9th out of 20 competitors. He has to commit to training every day at the Sheffield Ice Centre, to prepare himself for bi-monthly competitions. Over the last year, he has won every British competition available to him, leading to him being selected for the Great Britain squad in both the individual and couple disciplines. These achievements seem even more outstanding considering that Billy has only been skating for the last 4 years.
