Visiting the WWI Western Front
A group of pupils from Year 9 & 10 visited the WWI Western Front last week to support their learning in History and, specifically, the topic of medicine development during the WWI.
Our pupils took part in the Last Post ceremony at the Menin Gate at Ypres where they laid a wreath. They spent the whole day studying the terrain of the battles of Arras and Somme and visited Vimy Ridge and the Memorial Museum at Passchendaele. Pupils experienced the trenches and the work of stretcher-bearers and reflected on the realities of the Great War.
Their learning has been greatly enhanced by visiting these sights and helped them understand how ordinary men did extraordinary things in the face of fear, sickness, bad weather and a determined enemy.
