In 2018, English and mathematics were graded on the new 1 to 9 scale. 9 is the highest grade, 5 is a good pass and 4 is a standard pass (equivalent to the previous grade C pass).
Science, humanities and modern languages moved to the new grades for the first time in 2018 so direct comparisons to 2017 aren’t possible for science and EBACC subjects (English, mathematics, 2 sciences, geography/history and a foreign language).
