Assessment at Key Stage 3

At Kettlethorpe High School, we report to parents three times a year in Year 7 and twice in Year 8.

We report the students’ Attitude to Learning grades, Reading Age and attendance at every report point and we report their attainment in relation to their peers in the final two reports.

Attitude to Learning

Evidence clearly demonstrates that there is a close link between the attitude to learning (ATL) grade awarded to your child and the level of progress they make. We therefore suggest, when reading your child’s report, that you pay particularly close attention to the attitude to learning (ATL) grade.

Attainment

We are currently developing new descriptors for each subject area and a new assessment model.

This model will be based on reporting the average percentages that students achieve in the assessments that they complete. This average percentage will then be compared to the whole cohort and students will be identified as achieving in one of the following categories:

  • Top 20% of students
  • Top 40% of students
  • Top 60% of students
  • Top 80% of students

We will be updating the subject specific criteria and sharing the reporting documentation in due course.
