Vision

At Kettlethorpe High School, our core vision ‘together, be the best we can be’ runs through all that we do. It is not just a motto, but a philosophy that guides us all. We are proud of our curriculum, which is holistic and seeks to bring together the academic, vocational, co-curricular and personal development of all pupils which gives all those who attend this school a shared sense of belonging and community through their experience. We have three core missions for those in our community, that all are:

· Present

· Achieving

· Excelling

To achieve these goals, we offer a broad and balanced curriculum which plans and delivers, through well-sequenced implementation, the powerful knowledge and key skills at each stage of a pupil’s development. We plan for progression from KS2 and ensure that pupils are well-equipped by the end of KS3 to access a range of aspirational, appropriate and accessible KS4 courses which lead to successful post-16 transition routes and beyond. Pupils leave ready for the world of work, further education, or training; pupils leave as lifelong learners who understand that learning can bring joy and has purpose; pupils leave prepared for a future that is not yet determined and is ever-changing.

We recognise that pupils join us from a wide variety of backgrounds and prior experience of education. Our curriculum ensures that pupils are, in an increasingly digital world, literate and numerate. So that all are encouraged, all achieve and all excel at Kettlethorpe, and in line with our approach to diversity, equality and inclusion we carefully implement adaptations so that our curriculum is truly inclusive and personalised. Our curriculum is transformational, and our curriculum improves the life chances of all those in our school; socio-economic disadvantage should not represent a barrier to success. To make sure that all are present and truly benefit, our curriculum offer is engaging and meets all pupils’ needs. At KS4, we promote the value and the importance that the English Baccalaureate suite of subjects can have, we understand that there may be alternative pathways for some pupils whose needs are better met through a different, but equally as challenging, range of subjects; all who wish to study the EBacc subjects are encouraged and are able to do so; those who do not wish to follow this route are supported to select the most suitable choices for them.

Subject-specific learning in and out of a classroom is not the only important experience our school offers the pupils in our community. Our values-based personal development curriculum provides pupils with the key social, moral, spiritual and cultural development which all young people are entitled to. Through our 4Rs and Kindness Charter behaviour and personal development curriculum, pupils leave Kettlethorpe High School knowing what it means to be a good citizen, how to live long, happy and healthy lives after they leave; they leave knowing how to live in, and positively contribute to, a world that is both tolerant and proud of diversity in all its forms. Pupils leave equipped with social skills and understanding of what healthy relationships look like. Pupils leave Kettlethorpe High School with a clear understanding of their future career prospects and are ambitious in their choices.

Co-curricular opportunities are many and diverse at Kettlethorpe High School. We believe our co-curricular offer is truly outstanding because we provide opportunities for pupils across a wide range of contexts to experience the world beyond the classroom and to open new horizons, from sports to the creative and expressive arts and beyond. We believe that we are developing the leaders and the visionaries of the future. Our co-curricular offer reflects this belief through the opportunities and experiences we provide and promote.
